Tallest man - living Xi Shun (China, born. 1951), measured 7 ft 8.95 in (2 m 36.1 cm) as a result of six measurements taken on January 15, 2005, at Chifeng City Hospital, Inner Mongolia, China.Beating the previous holder Radhouane Charbib (Tunisia) by just 2 mm (0.07 in), Xi Shun claims that his height was normal for his age until he was 16. As a comparison, his father stood at 5 ft 10.8 in (1.8 m) and his mother was 5 ft 2.8 in (1.6 m) tall. In his late teens, he experienced a growth spurt that, while not normal, was seemingly without any cause. doctors who examined him in 2005 discovered no evidence of gigantism or acromegaly, and could not explain why he grew so tall so fast (it took him just seven years to reach his record height).Following a career in the Army – he was recruited for his basketball skills! – he returned to Inner Mongolia and works as a herdsman. He also hires himself out for publicity stunts for a local restaurant and tailor.He currently resides with his father and brother at Chifeng.

Say Goodbye to Halloween with us

Finally, our last Halloween post. Of the 100+ kids who stopped by our house last night, we saw some really crazy costumes (thankfully no costumes from our list of this year’s 10 worst costumes, although one girl was a life sized McDonald’s french fries container instead of the Big Mac). Here’s a few of the more bizarre costumes we saw:

• At least 3 teenage boys wearing nothing but homemade diapers (it was over 70 degrees, so it must have been a last minute decision)
• Another 3 or 4 boys dressed as topless cheerleaders, or maybe just football players with long hair and pompoms (each had a big blue letter ‘D’ painted on their chest too … odd)
• The obligatory bedsheet ghosts, one who didn’t have any eye holes and was being led around by a friend
• One fairy girl whose wings were MASSIVE. Probably 8 feet across. This was actually pretty cool, especially considering she couldn’t have been taller than 4 feet.

World's First Sun and Wind-Powered Ferry

A San Francisco-based company, Hornblower Yachts, is working with Solar Sailor of Sydney, Australia, to construct two 600-passenger trimarans for Alcatraz (at a cost of between $6 million and $8 million apiece) that will run on as much on sun and wind power as they do diesel fuel—and will emit half the pollutants of a similar sized conventional ferry. Service is scheduled to start in 2008, and a second vessel is on order for 2011.

The slickest feature? The triple-hulled vessel will have a 45-foot high retractable wing covered in solar panels that can generate 20 kilowatts of electricity to help take the load off the two diesel engines. 600pax_tri_side_lr The wing also generates some 170 hp on its own as a sail. When conditions get hairy and the wind hits 30+ knots (that's when many sailboats start to de-mast), the wings fold up, all beetle-like, and the ferry operates like one of its older counterparts All this is based on a similar ferry that's already been in operation in Sydney for a couple years

Girl Found Inside Car's Dashboard

A 10-year-old Mexican girl was found hidden inside a car's dashboard while it was undergoing an inspection Wednesday at the San Ysidro, California border crossing.

Officials said the girl was tightly trapped under the dashboard and the front passenger seat of a 1988 white Toyota Camry. She was removed after officers worked for 30 minutes to partially remove the seat. She appeared to be in good condition.
